Library Books by zetreque on March 27th, 2018, 6:07 pm
My alma mater has decided to get rid of 8000 books from it's library. I find it incredibly sad that this happens because I know so many students half-arse their reports and don't make use of this wonderful database of knowledge. One of the criteria for getting rid of the book is if it hasn't been checked out in a while. I am shocked by some of the books being gotten rid of. The books are being donated to an organization that is just going to try to sell them online. The other sad thing is, no one seems interested in these books or there is a lack of communication of getting rid of the books.

I have been going in regularly and going through them all and allowed to take any I desire. This is difficult because there is so much good stuff but I will not have the time to read it all. There is also so much knowledge in books that you just can't find online!!!!

Today they were getting rid of a book that I had just used for one of my classes to write a report on. I saved it to at least give to...

famous quote by zetreque on January 26th, 2018, 1:48 pm
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

Stuck listening to the enraged ramblings of an involuntarily committed schizophrenic, though half his words are unintelligible, the self-righteous indignation comes through.

It occurs to me that righteous rage is a mood enhancer. Perhaps even the more sane of us (or more functionally insane) also will invent reasons to fume to lift ourselves up from pathetic obscurity to the ranks of the St George skewering demons with our profanities.

Interference, double slit and Newton Rings by Odal on October 18th, 2017, 10:39 am
The question of interference patters is central to light theory. I would like to share some pictures that show the same patterns in very unusual situations.
The first picture has been taken with the open body of a digital camera, and a laser beam a pen) shining into the body. As you can see, the same patterns appear that are usually associated with constructive and destructive interference see in the double slit experiment, or in the use of two thin plates showing so-called Newton rings.
