Iris Dement. This one is sort of about what you have to do if you spend too much time in the metaphysics forum....

For some reason Lorde, Royals. Had it stuck in my head for a few weeks now. Have also been revisiting Jimmy Somerville (Classic!)

Not sure anyone with a bassoon can really be part of a mob. JK. There's not much bad LVB to be found. Every so often, I dig out some sheet music and attempt some of his sonatas. For piano, I like to listen to Liszt, LVB, Chopin, Gershwin, Mercer, Waller, Ellington, Joplin, Monk, Brubeck and (Oscar) Peterson. Symphonic, I like LVB, Dvorak, Holst, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Mozart, Stravinsky, Copland, Gershwin, and Orff.

I agree about the bassoon in such a large group, but what eclectic tastes you have Braininvat. I have NO sense of playing music. Although we had a pianola when I was young, and although 50% of the family on my mother's side of the family could bash out a tune by ear, the best I could ever do was pick out a tune by trial and error with one finger, memorise the sequence of notes and then play a one finger tune.

My wife always has music playing in the background whether she is working in the garden or in the house. She copied all of her vinyls onto tapes when they came in and then onto CDs when they came in. She also played the drums in country music bands, and at one stage, in a jazz band. I was her 'roadie' and often wished she'd played the mouth organ, which would be much easier to load and unload into and out of the car.

I often pondered what it was about music that appealed to us.

The best answer I saw was provided by a bloke named Manfred Clyne who apparently has degrees in up to four disciplines. I understand that he is now in his 90s and still working in a University in the USA. He wrote a book called Sentics: The touch of emotions, in which he produced crude evidence across cultures that we humans manifest separate muscle tension wave form patterns for a variety of emotions.

I don't think he said as much himself, but I formed the impression that certain wave-form patterns in music and art actually harmonise wih our emotional states at any given time, and hence appeal to us in a primitive emotional manner.

If anyone has an inquiring mind about why music appeals to us, the summary of his research in this field is available in Wikipedia. It comes up in Google under 'Manfred Clyne'

I'm obsessed with the Great Gatsby album. Don't ask me why!

The voices in the head of Someguy1.

I also listened to https://www.youtube.com/embed/GBaHPND2QJg and it's breathtaking. Good ole' Ludwig van. His musical genius has been paralleled only by the Beatles'.

The whole thing on the square sounded eerily (furthermore, earily) like the take by Herbert von Karajan.

This is a trio of buskers who have been approached by a Chinese tourist who asked to play the double bass with them.

Must be April 1.

I'm listening to the sound of one hand clapping.

It makes great ambient music!

Birds!
No, not them - real ones, outside.
At last, at last, I can keep the window open.
Bliss - and Sammy cat agrees.
She's afraid to go outside with no avenue of retreat, but loves sitting in the open window.
