Riddle Me This, Batman

Postby Jägerbombastic on May 9th, 2016, 5:28 pm

Just for fun, I have a little story puzzle for all of you, but do not try to look up the answer. NO CHEATING.

The store room of your house is locked with a certain kind of padlock that can be closed without a key but requires a key to open which you own and there is no duplicate key. You decide to move your old stuff to the storeroom. After keeping the things carefully, you lock it back again perfectly. The next day, a dead body is found in your closed store room.

Since only you have the key to the store room and you live alone, the police suspect you as the murderer. You can’t understand anything when suddenly a thought strikes your mind. There is a possible way using which the dead body could have been placed by someone else.

Can you find that way so that you can tell the police and prove yourself to be innocent?

put in your answers below, and I will tell you if you are correct.

If he locked the store room "perfectly", how did anyone get in there to find the body? I know. That isn't an answer but surely is a puzzle. I'd also suspect him.

Hmmm? Let me think. The dead person had hidden in one of the owner's boxes hoping to dig for treasures? But, no, we still ask how anyone got in there to find a body or even knew there was a body to find.

Let's see what others say. Thanks.

This is a "lateral thinking puzzle" so I've moved it from Logic to The Lounge.

Hi Jager,

So somebody picked the lock? Keys are not that secure.

I truthfully had the remains of two human bodies in my home, one for over 20 years. No visitor ever made a negative comment on seeing them. Why?

Regards,

Dave :^)

Mine are ashes in a nice urn. There may be other kinds of remains: a medical skeleton, for example.

Hi Jager,

Perhaps hiding the key under the mat wasn't such a good idea? Or a spare key?

Any idea how I kept the remains of two dead human bodies in my home without issues?

Cross posted..

Yes, they were my Parents, in Urns, on my Fireplace Mantle. I recently moved both of them to a final resting place in a Mausoleum.

If they weren't the entire remains, Dave, they could be transplanted corneas, or other organs, in you or other resident of house.

Or cremains, the other choice.

Ok..

Jager wrote:No you can only get in through the door that's locked.

Neat trick.. I've never been able to pass through a locked door.

So we know there are two keys but are not duplicates. So did someone switch locks?

Yea me...lol.

So I get it and that's why the emphasis on being able to lock the lock without a key. Someone swapped identical locks while you were in the store room and you would not have noticed on leaving. Later they open their lock, placed the body and restored the original lock belonging to you.

Fun one..

You are a schizophrenic, and your alter ego killed the person - locked up and went to bed. You woke up the next day, ignorant of the crime your alter ego committed, and are therefore innocent in the eyes of the law.

The locksmith has a duplicate. All good locksmiths make an extra key to keep on file. Or so all the murder mysteries say. The locksmith did it.

I worked with a property manager, and they had a master key to all their doors. The tenants had a variation key that opened just the one door. Another company worked with the individual units keys. What a head ache that was.
Also, I once used the wrong key on my back door. It was much smaller and didn't even fit properly, but it did open the door.
