Guess the movie/tv programme

Postby BadgerJelly on December 10th, 2016, 3:47 am

Like the title says. Write out a quote and see who guesses the show/movie.

From sci-fi comedy favourite of mine :

"So what is it?"

From a blantantly obvious sci-fi classic :

"Time to die."

From the best kids programme ever (probably) :

"... but Emily loved him." Not sure if you poor folks in the US had this one? :(

Given recent threads, I would guess Badger should be Fredo. But how about:

"As God is my judge, I thought turkeys could fly."

Godfather II is correct (watching Clemenza mature as we speak)

Hmm, no idea.

How about: "These guys are good. How did they know I had gas?"

No idea on yours but I can provide another clue for mine:

"My God, they're hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement!"

Okay I will give the answer - my vote for the funniest TV episode ever. The Thanksgiving Turkey give away by WKRP in Cinncinnatti.

Predator? With the in-famous Kevin Peter Hall?

Mine were Red Dwarf (White Hole episode), Bladerunner and Bagpuss.

These should be easier unless you have no taste whatsoever:

"And now for somthing completely different..."

"find the mightiest tree in the forest and cut it down with .... A HERRING!"

sticking with the theme:

"He's not the messiah! He's a very naughty boy!"

And from the same movie probably my favourite quote:

"One day lad all this will be yours!"
"What? The curtains?"

Monty Python and The Life of Brian are definitely among my favs.

If something more current might help, how about:

"There's always money in the Banana Shack."

Or from an obscure little gem, often called the Citizen Caine of alcoholic clown movies:

"A toast to your new-found sobriety!"

"Body of Binky"

And in homage to Florence Henderson: "You're my first clown."

The movie was Shakes the Clown.

*giggles*

Yes, two weeks in Leith can be yours if you can say "The Leith police arresteth us" 5 times fast without sounding like Boris Yeltsin on a bad day.

Most devilish tongue twister I know. Peter Piper can have the pool cue.

Anyway, in case any of you are as, erm, project-free as myself, the best film I've seen in the last 5000 years is a French-Canadian flick called "Incendies".

Anything from Villeneuve, really. Sicario was also good. Also Arrival.

Here's one...

Yeah yeah, just say "The Leith police arresteth us" 5 times fast, as instructed

Consider it a shibboleth.

Hey, old pal, I'm doing another Putnam book right now. His claim is that "I'm a brain in a vat" is disprovable, I think, or incoherent.

Well, you read it, or have you? ("Reason, Truth, and History")

Made me think of you. I'm willing to trade it for your cat.

I think it's related to Davidson's "swampman"

better ask Lomax. Or Fay Wray.

Well, here's the deal (it's late and I have a few Grolsch's inside me):

Let's suppose, due to some metereological miracle, a complete molecule-for-molecule replica of your good self emerged from a swamp one day due to an uncommon lightning strike which resulted in... well, another you.

Would it have your thoughts? His brain is identical with yours, like it or not.

Would it remember that vacation you took in Tasmania?

You remember it. But how can Swampman? He's never been to Tasmania. How can he remember a vacation he never took?

He just emerged from a swamp, after all. You presumably didn't.

It launches from the above Swampman gedankexperiment. Or just dank experiment. Heh.

Brain -

A toe with nail polish ... I know I know it, but keep thinking Fargo ... that seems wrong though? Is it from the movie with this quote:

"Shut the **** up Donnie!"

Damn classic!

The Dude abides. And I take great comfort in that.

Yes, that masterful philosophic black comedy, The Big Lebowski. And yes, it's from the Coen Brothers, who also did Fargo, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, and other masterpieces.
