A major terrorist incident has taken place outside the houses of parliament in Westminster London.

London ambulance services say they were summoned at 2:40pm to an incident on Westminster bridge in which a 4x4 vehicle had mounted the pavement and mowed down up to dozen pedestrians.
Armed police activated emergency procedures shortly afterwards when the vehicle crashed into railings outside parliament and a man armed with a knife stabbed a policeman at the gates and ran inside. The attacker was shot multiple times and the houses of parliament have been placed under lockdown. The prime minister was evacuated at high speed in a car by her security staff.
Media reports say that one woman died in the Westminster bridge incident and that a number of others have catastrophic injuries. One female pedestrian was knocked into the river but was rescued alive according to the port of London authority.
The policeman stabbed just inside the gates of the palace of Westminster is said to have subsequently died, while the attacker who stabbed him has been removed in an ambulance seriously injured but still alive according to latest reports
The acting chief of the metropolitan police Craig Mackie was actually in Westminster when the attack began according to police sources who say they are treating the attack as a terrorist incident.
Large parts of central London are still in lock-down, including tourists who are trapped in the gondola cars of the giant 'London Eye' Ferris wheel located just across the Westminster bridge which was stopped immediately when the attack started.
