Devin Nunes Unmasked - As Unmasker

The Washington Post has published an article claiming that it was Congressman Devin Nunes, the Republican chair of the House Intelligence Committee, who asked US spy agencies late last year to reveal the names of U.S individuals or organisations contained in classified intelligence on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/nunes-led-house-intelligence-committee-requested-unmaskings-of-americans/2017/06/02/5c098dc0-47bc-11e7-98cd-af64b4fe2dfc_story.html?utm_term=.254d3b7e5278

Given that it was Nunes himself who strongly criticised the practice of ‘unmasking’ of U.S individuals and organizations mentioned in classified reports as an abuse of surveillance powers by the Outgoing Obama adminsitration, the hypocrisy is quite breath-taking.

When Nunes was demanding in public to know who had engineered the unmasking of such intelligence targets, he knew the answer all along. It was none other than Devin Nunes himself on at least five separate occasions in his role as chair of the House Intelligence committee.

Congressman Nunes who is up for re-election in 2018 has subsequently been forced to recuse himself from any involvement in his own committee's work on the Russia probe following an ethics complaint because of his behaviour in an extraordinary charade in which he went over to the White House and briefed President Trump on intel that hadn’t yet been discussed with fellow committee members.

There are unconfirmed reports that Nunes has also subsequently had his TS/SCI security clearances revoked, which if true would mean that he is no longer able to receive highly classified briefings as a member of the so-called ‘Gang Of Eight’.
