Happy 4th July

Postby toucana on July 4th, 2017, 6:33 am

To celebrate 4th July, ancestry.com brought together 29 direct descendants of the original signers and re-enacted John Trumbull's famous painting of the original Signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The descendants who represent almost every possible colour and ethnicity read out the words of the Declaration in a powerful and moving tribute to America's diversity.

Huffington Post reports that NPR tweeted out the complete text of the Declaration of Independence yesterday.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/npr-declaration-of-independence_us_595c6525e4b0da2c7325bd50

The lengthy string of tweets apparently confused quite a number of Alt-Right Trump supporters who didn't recognise the document in question, and took exception to such sentiments as:
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

The Trumpsters apparently thought that NPR was pasting contemporary neo-liberal criticisms of President Trump's administration rather than that of George III, and they unloaded on NPR, with characteristic vitriol.

Many of the Tweets have since been deleted (in some case the entire accounts too), once the GOP supporters realised what NPR had been tweeting. But HP have preserved a large number of screen-caps for posterity.

For those not familiar with this seditious and SAD 'fake news' document, here is a link to the full text of the US Declaration of Independence.
