President For Life ?

Trump - Xi JinPing

He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great - And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll have to give that a shot some day."

In the closed-door remarks, a recording of which was obtained by CNN, Trump praised China's President Xi Jinping for recently consolidating power and extending his potential tenure, musing he wouldn't mind making such a maneuver himself.

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/03/03/politics/trump-maralago-remarks/index.html

The remarks, delivered inside the ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago estate during a lunch and fundraiser, were upbeat, lengthy, and peppered with jokes and laughter.

Seems like #45 now has his sights set on the XXII amendment.

Who didn't see that coming?
The minute he won, he started campaigning for the next election - and has never let the actual job get in the way of his on-going campaign.

I can't wait until this president that speaks like a 4th grader is gone so we don't have to put up with so much political mumbojumbo any longer on a science philosophy forum.

That's what many people said about Adolf Hitler in 1933.

It's just a reality of being President, that there are some jokes you should hold back. Threats to the Constitution would fall into that category. Especially when you advocate violating the Constitution on a weekly basis.

First as comedy, then as tragedy.

You don't have to go there. Just look at Trump's own history of "jokes".

The Marx quote is "history repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce."

Mel Brooks seemed to understand that.

Or at least he understood, "tragedy + time = comedy."

But you have to remember the compression of time; at the logical extreme, it folds back on itself.
Everything goes so much faster now that celebrities perform self-parody even before they become celebrities.

I know. We know more history than he did.

You wouldn't guess it from his film appearances, but Harpo was the real intellectual of the family.

If anyone else bumbled around a job, with such incompetence they wouldn't last long. Yet the party is willing to support him, despite the buffoonery and long term damage he is doing, just to maintain their degree of power??
