CO2 Shortage in UK & Europe

Postby toucana on June 26th, 2018, 1:41 pm

A serious shortage of industrial CO2 gas is causing problems in UK and other parts of western Europe.

CO2 gas is used in a wide range of industrial food and drink processing procedures including beers and carbonated drinks. Rationing systems have been hurriedly introduced for bars and frozen food suppliers, and the problem is even affecting the work of abattoirs which rely on CO2 powered stun-guns as part of the slaughter process.

The problem which has caught many industries by surprise has arisen because a number of major industrial suppliers of CO2 gas have all taken plant off-line for summer maintenance at the same time.

Britain is currently in the grip of heatwave that is forecast to last until Sunday, which is only exacerbating the problems caused by the lack of both bottled CO2 gas, and its solid 'dry ice' form.
