Mueller Grand Jury Files First Indictments

Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller

CNN are reporting that Grand juries in Washington DC working for Special prosecutor Robert Mueller have filed the first criminal indictments in connection with their ongoing enquiries into collusion between the Trump administration and the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.

It is not yet clear who the target(s) of the sealed indictments might be, but speculation is rife that Trump’s former National security advisor Michael Flynn will be an early target, and quite possibly former campaign chair Paul Manafort as well. An arrest plan called an MOE (Marshals order of execution) was reportedly worked out and approved some months ago, and the first arrests are likely to take place on Monday when the indictments are formally unsealed.

There were indications earlier this week that Mueller’s investigation was moving into high gear when Trump’s former Chief of staff Reince Priebus and former press spokesman Sean Spicer both gave testimony in day-long sessions to investigators. On Friday the East Virginia DA Dana Boente within whose district the Grand juries had orginally started announced that he was retiring, indicating that his work was done.

The decisive break in the investigation appears to involve the testimony of James Woolsey, the former Director of CIA during the Trump transition, who witnessed an extraordinary covert meeting between Michael Flynn and members of the Turkish intelligence in which Flynn appeared to be discussing the illegal abduction and rendition of Fethullah Gülen, a prominent Turkish opposition leader who was living in exile in USA. Flynn was later exposed as having been working as an undisclosed paid foreign agent of the Turkish government at the same time he was being appointed as Trump’s National security advisor. James Woolsey resigned as director of CIA without any public explanation soon afterwards, and has apparently since been working with Mueller’s investigation.
