Trump Inaugural Committee Under Criminal Investigation

Postby toucana on December 14th, 2018, 6:26 am

President Donald Trump's 2017 inaugural committee is currently being investigated by federal prosecutors in New York for possible financial abuses related to the more than $100 million in donations raised for his inauguration, according to a source familiar with the matter according to CNN and The Wall Street Journal.

If this “breaking” story sounds oddly familiar, and you are wondering where you heard it before, turn back to this thread originally posted here seven months ago on 12 May 2018.

Meanwhile there is renewed speculation that Robert Mueller obtained a number of important investigative leads into the web of corruption surrounding the Trump presidency by studying details of the donations supposedly made to finance Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2017.

Just over a year ago, political reporter Christina Wilkie (then of Huffington Post, now of CNBC) asked the public to help her pore over the Donald Trump campaign’s list of supposed inauguration donors. That crowdsourced effort quickly exposed that many of the donations were from fake names, fake companies and fake addresses too.

Virtually none of the record-breaking $106.7 million raised by the inauguration committee, has been accounted for, and only a tiny fraction has been donated to charity either. Thomas Barrack a financier and close friend of Donald Trump who chaired the Inaugural committee was recently revealed to be one of the witnesses questioned by Robert Muellers’s investigators.

What is different this time around is that investigators apparently now have an audio recording of a discussion between Michael Cohen and a committee member about the finances. They also have more questions about an improbably large fee of $26 million paid to one of Melania Trump’s personal friends for so-say “administrative services” in organising the poorly attended C-List celebrity event in January 2017.

According to an article published today in Propublica, investigators are also likely be interested in why the inaugural committee was paying Trump's Washington Hotel very large sums of money to hire event spaces, accommodation and catering at far above normal market rates.

Lawyers say it's probably an ethics violation under the Emoluments clause of the constitution against undue self-enrichment, and most likely a breach of tax law as well.

And who was the Trump organisation executive responsible for venue rental back in January 2017 ? Well that would be Ivanka.

Some pundits are saying that the presidential inauguration has always been a ceremony where the wealthy and connected "purchase" their access to the President. Essentially "buy" more social connections. This may only be that the Trump inauguration had the donations shifting around at a quote, "scale not seen before".

I was pretty certain they were going to go after the slick-black-hair son. "Junior". But now it seems Ivanka will be the target. She may have embezzled funds intended for the inauguration.
