Towards the end of his latest daily briefing, president Trump surprised the few commentators who were still paying any attention by making the remarkable claim that Seoul - the capital city of South Korea - supposedly has a population of 38 million.

Seoul actually has a population of around 9.7 million. So where did the wildly inaccurate figure of 38 million come from ?

A sharp-eyed reader of Wikipedia spotted the probable source and put it up on Twitter.

Yep that’s right. President Trump, and his idiot handlers can’t tell the difference between an elevation above sea-level of 38m and an urban population total of 38 million.

The US president was responding indignantly to a question about coronavirus testing capacity from PBS NewsHour reporter Yamiche Alcindor, when he questioned her about her knowledge of Seoul.

"I know South Korea better than anybody," he said.

"It's a very tight - do you know how many people are in Seoul? Do you know how big the city of Seoul is? 38 million people. That's bigger than anything we have."
