Pity they didn't have the courage of their convictions a l-o-n-g time ago.

Capitol police have issued a photograph of a rioter seen carrying a fire extinguisher near the Capitol on Wednesday 6 January.

They wish to interview this man in connection with the murder of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

Turns out that wearing a woollen hat embroidered with the initials of your former employer isn't your best move if you plan take part in a violent insurrection on Capitol Hill.

Chester Fire Department (CFD) confirmed that ex-firefighter Robert Sanford 55 of Upper Chichester Pennsylvania, who is now in custody, was a former employee who retired in February 2020.

Peculiar on a couple points. One, someone whose career was protecting the public from harm, attacking a police officer. Two, a firefighter chooses a fire extinguisher as a weapon, a dangerous one when directed at a human head. I withdraw "peculiar," and suggest "depraved."

Looking forward to four years where the concept of "moral leadership" might be resuscitated.

At the moment, my deepest concern is the number of police and military personnel openly or covertly in the Trump camp. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/11/military-right-wing-extremism-457861
Specifically, the heavily armed soldiers assigned to guard the Capitol. It only takes one rogue...

Me too, or something like it. We need some fresh air.

PS. They definitely need to keep a very sharp eye on T's ghastly relatives as well. I can see D Jnr trying to carry it all on like nothing happened. For his own benefit, naturally. The country's got bugger all to do with it. They're all into self-glory, that crowd.

The trouble is that what you can get away with even legally doesn't bear thinking about.

Trump still isn’t done yet it seems. This picture of My Pillow CEO Michael Lindell was taken earlier today as he attended a meeting with Trump. Lindell who is a die-hard supporter and unofficial adviser of the president was seen clutching a sheaf of typewritten notes along with a cup of coffee and his phone as he entered the West Wing.

The cameras of watching journalists had no difficulty in capturing the text of the notes in Lindell’s hand, and they make interesting reading:

It would appear to be yet another lunatic scheme to install extremists like Sidney Powell into high level NSC positions, and to then invoke martial law on the pretext that the 6 January riot at the Capitol was somehow the handiwork of foreign actors from China and Iran - *yawn*

Many people can be a dictator or fascist operative, but it takes a real pillow expert to smother democracy in its sleep.

This was interesting too. Not new, but interesting.

The Washington Post and MSNBC both report that Lt. General Charles Flynn who is the brother of the disgraced ‘lock her up’ Lt. General Michael Flynn was one of the key Pentagon officials who refused to authorise the deployment of National Guardsmen as the 1/6 insurrection of Capitol Hill escalated.

    https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/wapo-meeting-on-military-response-to-trump-riot-included-mike-flynn-s-brother-99773509543

Steven Sund the Chief of the Capitol Police said he tried six times to call for reinforcements but was blocked. He also claims to have joined a conference call with Pentagon officials and asked them to deploy the National Guard and was told no by Lt General Walter E. Piatt the director of the Army Staff - even after informing them that shots had been fired inside the Capitol.

Army spokesmen initially denied that General Charles Flynn had been in that conference room or played any role in refusing to deploy the National Guard, but according to the WP those denials are untrue, and General Charles Flynn was indeed in that room.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/flynn-national-guard-call-riot/2021/01/20/7f4f41ba-5b4c-11eb-aaad-93988621dd28_story.html

It was already known that Congressman Hoyer the democratic leader who was barricaded behind locked doors and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan who was in phone contact with him were unable to get multiple calls to the Department of Defense returned as the mob rampaged through the Capitol.

There is also an interview with Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy at the head of this CNN clip in which explains that he had to run from his office and down a corridor to seek authorisation to deploy after almost 90 minutes of confusion and delay. “Far too close to a disaster” as he observes.
