Modern neuroscience labs generate data in such large quantity, that it cannot even be interpreted by the researchers doing the work. Computer scientists and software engineers are recruited to organize these reams of data. The results of the organization are large databases which they are calling "atlases".

I hadn't realized this until I read Sebastian Seung's fascinating book, "Connectome."

I like your other threads on related matter you recently put up, especially the interactive site on the juvenile rat cortical simulation. I have a feeling I'm going to while away some hours over there.
