Damer and Deamer

Postby hyksos on August 6th, 2017, 12:55 pm

This is the story of Damer and Deamer. A story of a collaboration between a computer scientist and a molecular biochemist.

Bruce Frederick Damer , PhD (born 1962) is Canadian-American multi disciplinary scientist, designer, and author.

David Wilson Deamer , (born1939) is an American biologist and Research Professor of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Working in close collaboration, Damer and Deamer gave birth to the hypothesis called the "Coupled Phase Model" of abiogenesis. This hypothesis predicts that life began on earth in terrestrial hot springs undergoing phases of drying and wetting.

i haven’t seen the video yet, but I wanted to say that thse kinda of crossdisciplinary collaborations can be extremely productive. I’ve been collaborating with a friend of mine who’s a computer scientist for over a decade now. I’m a biochemist and he’s a machine learning scientis at Amazon. Together, we solve problems that neither of us can efficiently solve alone.

Thanks for sharing hyksos.
