Thanks TheVat for drawing our attention to that article by Peter Brannen. I found it refreshing to read an article that was not alarmist in its main message, that message being -- 'that the Amazon is not the world's lungs'.

Of course it is not the deficit of oxygen that we are led to believe is the driver of the current end-of-the-world scenario. It's carbon dioxide. But unfortunately, our attempts to reduce carbon dioxide at the moment are the equivalent of 'pissing into the wind'. Cloud reduction appears to be proceeding at a rate that is causing more warming than that due to the radiative forcing of carbon dioxide.

If I get the time in the next week or two, I'll see if I can find some figures on changes in sulphur dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere over the past century or so.
