Mom slams drug rehab centre run by Scientologists
By CBC News, cbc.ca, Updated: April 9, 2012 4:58 AM

A Toronto mother is speaking out about a Quebec treatment facility she sent her drug-addicted son to, which turned out to be run by Scientologists.

"I feel fooled. I really thought they were going to be able to help me. And help him," said Yvonne Keller. "Instead, they just put this kid right back where he started from."

Should vulnerable people be exposed to religious ideologies, different from their own, when receiving treatment for addictions?

Interesting. For many, some kind of belief system can be very helpful. However, I certainly think if these programs get any kind of public (i.e., government) funding then no one religion should be favoured. But then if and when private groups foot the bill such as a religious group, it is tough to prevent them from advocating their own. Maybe the religious affiliation should be made very explicit.

Is the omission of such information being dishonest? From the information provided, it sounds like this organization is after the fast money, and if they have to put in any effort to help someone, bus fare is a quick-fix. I'm guessing she doesn't see dime one returned.
