Kirstjen Nielsen - Homeland Security Director (2017-2019)

The abrupt resignation yesterday of Homeland Security Director Kirstjen Nielsen (apparently she wasn’t extreme enough for Trump’s taste) -

and her replacement by current Border Patrol boss Kevin MacLeenan on a pro tempore basis means that the following positions within the Trump administration are now unfilled, and staffed by ‘acting’ officers:

Secretary of Defense
Homeland Security Director
FEMA Director
ICE Director
Secretary of the Interior
United Nations Ambassador
White House Communications Director
White House Chief of Staff

Just as well they don’t have an emergency of any description going on right now.

If this were a TWILIGHT ZONE episode, Kirstjen Nielsen would wake up in a small cage with Latin American children on the outside watching her.

(from a recent post in Humor thread)

It's a question of how this kind of governance affects public confidence in the federal government. I haven't seen polls, but wonder how much people pay attention to the cabinet. It may require an emergency to spotlight these gaps for many people. I'd say, for example, that the citizens of Puerto Rico are fairly aware. Unfortunately they don't get to vote, except in the primary.
