Poems by E Horizon

Postby Event Horizon on April 27th, 2018, 12:15 am

It's gratifying to see how popular poetry is here. If its okay, I'll share some too. Im gonna start with the one that the International Library of Poetry published.

Alas

Alas, our love is broken now,
The pieces gone astray,
Haunted, lonely is the wreck,
Beneath the salty waves,
A blackened hulk where lights once played,
On merriment and song,
That plays no more,
In dark abides,
Deep currents rolling on.

Alas if I would salvage now,
The pieces gone astray,
A slimed and rotted gruesome thing,
Beneath the salty waves,
I fear no solace waits for me,
In dark and lonely deeps,
But a salty grave,
Beneath the waves,
Where love eternal sleeps.

Bombed out

A bombed out man,
In a bombed out cellar,
With no roof left to protect him from the weather,
He hides there still, too scared to move,
He's already lost all there was to loose.

He wonders why he survived all this,
And his mind fills up with his memories,
He wonders when it will all go away,
And can it still be alright someday.

He knows he's alive, but he's not quite sure,
What world he's in like he did before,
And it's cold out top so he's all crunched up,
Biting on his pain and his awful luck.

He just want's to stand where he stood before,
But he knows in his heart it's not there any more,
So he cowers in his cellar while the sleet blows in,
Praying for the sleep that exhaustion brings.

Dreamthief

I might have seen it from the start,
But for the words you told me,
Kind to heal my broken heart,
And loving arms to hold me.
You let me think the dream was real,
And filled my head with false belief,
And with my dreams you sought to steal
My soul, you are a dreamthief.

Now I don't care where your life goes,
Or where your journey takes you,
And if the things you said are real,
Then more fool you.
And wryly I look back and smile,
And shake my head in disbelief,
And I'll recover in a while,
But you, you are a dreamthief.

(Fragment) Night

Lonely night, how cold you are;
How big and wide and dark you are,
How soft and fine and deep you are;
Cradling the land in sleep, you are;
The most worthy of those you keep, you are
Gentler than the day, by far.

These are representative poems. A minor selection. If people want to see more, just give me feedback. That's it. If I get no feedback, I assume no-one is interested. I've had 2 manuscripts stolen so accept no forgeries. 100% true.
Yours is the only comment. Thank you.

Blood and oil

I see a stick of bombs falling,
I see vapor trails,
I see fire and devastation,
I guess the talking failed.

It could be I'm just cynical,
What do the spirits say?
It's geopolitical, it's power,
Never been any other way.

I see the clouds aflare,
For some the end of days,
To us a moment on the news,
Hiding all the lies away.

I feel the mountain shake,
As all the blasted splinters fly,
Red blood for black gold,
Until they both run dry.

The blood/oil one had considerable eloquence. Simple, visceral, heartfelt. Keep at it!

Thanks Brainy, that means a lot. I
tend to pick subjects with that visceral edge. I'm not looking to be a keats or Shelley with all that verbose and flowery language.
To me, brevity is key. I like to keep them short and unequivocal. I usually include layers to much of my work. Some people just take them on face value, while others might discover 2 or even 3 layers of meaning. I love the whole process and ran creative writing groups during various hospital visits.

One thing most people love is if one wrote a poem, as happens, that is good, that helps people connect, I also feel a bit less unworthy if I can impart joy and humour too. I'm technically a wordsmith not a poet per se though I am a vip member of the internatiinal library of poets, which is some measure of success I guess.
Will post some more soon ~ E_H

I’d love to see something more free form if you have it?

I do have some free form I think. My last manuscript was stolen, but I should still have some originals that I can reconstruct. I will have a look for you and see if I can produce something decent.
Thanks for the encouragement.
