Good on you, mate!
We just live in the country (highway frontage, actually; not a bit remote) and I've spent some time collecting both decorative and edible herbs and flowers. Can't walk so much anymore, and I miss it.

There are medicinal plants and fungi, edible plants, roots and tubers all over. Our ancestors would have known them all. I know many and refer to an herbalist called Culpepper who wrote extensively on herblore in the middle ages. I think this knowledge still exists, we just don't really need to know it short of a calamity.
