Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence links

This article by Scott Aaronson is a sample of what sort of links we could collect in this thread. He's an MIT expert in quantum computing and artificial intelligence who's written an entertaining essay exploring the possibility a machine copy of an individual's personality

Perhaps, we should name this Philosophy and Technology links Marshall, since it's more inclusive, though I admit, AI is more catchy. Thinking about it, the categories should be more like this, though the lines are sometimes blurred and subcategories don't always fit nicely under the parentage assigned to them
Geo-politics > Technology > AI. The category/subcategory of geopolitics/technology is somewhat unsettled though, but admittedly geopolitics is a wider field than technology, even though technology may determine geopolitics.

Thanks, dande. Murray gives a good survey of the phenomenological territory and principal players like Parfit, Chalmers, and Searle. He also makes a strong case for the functionalist position, as well as giving some specific spproaches to a mouse Singularity. I'd recommend this lecture to anyone thinking about uploading themselves. :-)

This 1932 short story by John W. Campbell seems to be a very early take on the Singularity.
