Thing Explainer: Complicated stuff in simple words, Randall Munroe,

is available for pre-order, and the author's going on tour soon.

Randall Munroe is perhaps better known as xkcd guy. His web comic is pretty popular, especially with scientists.

It's a beautiful book because it's all about how simple the world truly is when pretentious folks aren't trying to get jollies off by pretending that it's complicated. I haven't seen its contents yet, but knowing xkcd guy, it should be an insightful, fascinating explanation of the world around us in a delightful read filled with fun-but-meaningful illustrations.

More info's available on xkcd guy's blog.

In all seriousness, books like this should really be available in libraries throughout grade schools, including in individual classrooms' book shelves. We'd get a lot of smarter kids.

Truer words are seldom spoken.
