How do we know a wrong cause from a right one? If we go to Flanders, we can find cemeteries full of the dead from both sides. Which side was God on? Isn't a stupid war just a stupid war when all is done? Perhaps all causes are wrong if they require killing others. My gg-grandfather attended the Gettysburg reunion in the summer of 1913. It's said that the re-enactment failed to come off when the Union greybeards on top of Cemetery Ridge saw the old Confederates start hobbling up that hill again, threw down their rifles, and ran down to meet their old enemies.

What seems so interesting is that some will kill for the cause that concerns them. Mostly, this can be labeled as patriotism. However, politics and religion are also strong 'killer' causes.

Is there a line where one can kill to protect one's family, but not to protect one's country?

neuro, although difficult to visualise, the situation in which one's children or partner, at home, are threatened with imminent death by an intruder and one has the means to stop.
