Jalalddin Rumi is largely considered to be the greatest mystic poet that had ever lived .
His funerals were attended by muslims, jews , christians and others alike ..........

the guy is one of the greatest sufi saints and his philosophy is second to none....

What I like is his poetry. We have a book of Rumi poems and he is an important part of one of my favorite anthologies of spiritual poems.

I should also understand his "sufi saint" and philosophical dimensions because we have good longtime friends who are Sufi and moved from living next door to us to join a Sufi community a few miles from here. But although I should have some view of Rumi as a saint and philosopher, I don't really. For me it is the joyful spiritual personality in his poetry that matters. He is a poet primarily, for me.

For me, philosophy is NON-mystical, involving the careful steady examination of concepts. No confusion of ideas, no leaps, no intentional paradoxes, no riding on the horse of surprising metaphor.

And although our good friends are Sufi, and we love and delight in them, I really do not know what Sufism is. After all these years.
