What is going on with the sky?

Postby MyKoL LoKyM on January 9th, 2017, 11:04 am

I am from Alabama. I have lived here all my life. What I'm seeing in the sky, around the sun and other areas...is new here. Also, is becoming an almost everyday occurrence.

My first sighting... https://youtu.be/JeWzs-Cg8gc ...October 23, 2016 at 5:10pm.

Little did I know that it would become a regular sight in the sky. The next morning, (this is one of my favorite videos), I recorded this... https://youtu.be/RJXNKR0U2XQ

Later that afternoon, between 11am and 1pm I recorded this https://youtu.be/9-nIV6kiKKs that appears to show two planetary bodies where the "sundog" on either side should be. I only noticed this after I got home and watched the videos

On October 26, 2016 @ 8:30am https://youtu.be/GSTNN2Vd26w and again on November 1, 2016 @ 3:53pm https://youtu.be/L16C4YbMCYc . I cannot confirm, nor deny that they did or did not appear everyday in between. I just know that based on my sightings since October 23, it must be nearly every day or every other day that this occurs, multiple times a day.

Nov 5 @ 1:44pm https://youtu.be/KCm3IAD9zvY ...
Nov. 6@9:53am https://youtu.be/hgTFyc9HWyQ ...
Nov. 13@3:55pm https://youtu.be/7oflH0bP7Hc ...
Nov. 22@9:11am https://youtu.be/1uyLJvXejSY and my sun halo sightings began this day as well https://youtu.be/BR_oI8GJTHY 9:21am and so did Backwards Rainbows https://youtu.be/7sS6MdkljtY @9:02am ...
Dec. 2@9:13am https://youtu.be/GEm83Qvse48 ...
Dec.23 @2:19pm https://youtu.be/wvle08mA0A8 ...
Another halo on Dec. 29@8:36am https://youtu.be/cPgG9MLoW8o .

Jan. 2, 2017 Halo https://youtu.be/SSwBUTOtKMo @?:?? ...

Another Backwards/Inverted Rainbow in the sky Jan. 4, 2017@8:33am https://youtu.be/mL3mpTNVqjY and the "sundogs" at 8:43am https://youtu.be/rYwaGf7Jpbc which went on for a good 10 minutes or more. Jan. 4 was a very active day https://youtu.be/1uO30C65QGA at 1:48pm . At 3:03pm I recorded another Backwards rainbow in the sky https://youtu.be/3qmearD33pQ and I went around to the other side of house and got https://youtu.be/zor-xwYns_Q this video of all 3 anomalies Inverted Rainbow, Sundogs and Halo at 3:09pm on January 4, 2017.

Jan. 8@10:59am https://youtu.be/1jlD0_hF_Zo and again at 2:01pm https://youtu.be/V8PrLSP8tfs

Is this caused by the airplanes? By celestial bodies? If not and it is your typical Sundogs and halos, then why is it becoming so common?

Hi MyKoL LoKyM,

That is some good documentation you have done. I like to see people get interested in something and that's great you have started to collect data on it. Keep it up and keep it organized so you can use it easier in the future.

Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) has some information on this topic. You may even want to submit a picture to them if you get a good one.

I have a great image somewhere that explains all the parts of rainbow phenomena but I'll be damned if I can find it right now.

As to why you are seeing them more often. There is a controversial topic of contrails being chemtrails in the sky. For years I was a skeptic of "chemtrails." The terminology alone can be misleading and used in various ways. Airplane exhaust naturally has particles and those particles can possibly have water condense on them so I can understand the word chemtrails. However, there are also contrails which is the air plane wing creating a difference of pressure and if the humidity is right then water will condense leaving the trails you see. There is a lot of garbage out there on the internet written by people who have not done a bit of research into the topic but I have recently started to take this topic seriously.

You aren't the only one noticing changes in the sky. One artifact of global warming that I have heard about (though I'm not going to find a reference at this time) is that we are going to see higher thinner clouds. While I can't confirm that at the moment it's worth investigating.

It's when I watched and researched the man behind Climate Viewer (Jim Lee who I think lives in your region) when I started taking this more seriously. He has several videos on youtube. While some of it might be way out there, he does have some intelligent points. Climate Viewer is a project he started to document the changes in cloud cover to prove what he is noticing like you. Here is a post.

Air traffic has also increased dramatically in the past decade so it is important to keep track of what effects that has caused.
