The best tool to advance individuality by Anonymous on November 6th, 2012, 11:00 am
Hi everyone

As Election Day kicks off here in the USA (and I am not allowed to partake - maybe by the next go-round I will be a citizen) I am at a bit of a crossroads in life and I have been for awhile now. I am pausing for reflection. Over the last couple of years I've spent a sizable chunk of change on books and appointments on career change - aka the "do what you love gurus". They talk a lot about the importance of understanding who you are, and what your values are. They give you a lot of worksheets and forms to fill out to get this understanding. However, I've come to the conclusion that understanding who one is can be a lifelong journey for many of us (ie. me). Trying to understand what my "values" are in such a way that I can make some profound life change all of a sudden is kind of a stretch.

But, what I value the most (outside of family), more than anything else is individuality. I'm sure this is the same for a lot of people. On the one hand, even in...

The goal isn't to follow the law, but to act well.
The Key is not to stop sinning, but to not want to sin.
If your desire is sick and your want is perverse, but your actions good, you are still lost.

Confessions of a Disgruntled Misanthrope by Anonymous on December 21st, 2011, 9:45 pm
Ludwig Wittgenstein said that explanations have to end somewhere. But, how can we know where that "somewhere" is? The horizon marks the boundary between the earth and sky; and yet, ...well the point is clear. The "somewhere" I seek may just be an artifact of perception, like the horizon. But; first things first: on a personal note I'm such a misanthrope that ordinary social considerations don't matter much to me. This affords me sufficient time to be annoyed and troubled by recondite philosophical questions. I live vicariously through the angst generated by them. Yet, however "recondite", they may be I manage to clothe such questions within my own skin. Psychoanalysts, if there are such people would probably render a dire assessment of my sexual proclivities if they knew how intimately these musings intertwine with my viscera. "Musings" and flatulence, not to mention "arousal" are sometimes hard to distinguish: each churning away under layers...
